WATCH: New Zealand’s Sarpreet Singh ends season with goal and a red card

All Whites midfielder Sarpreet Singh’s season is over in the German Bundesliga 2 after he was sent off in his club’s second-to-last match.

Hansa Rostock’s Singh was given a red card following a mistimed tackle on FC Schalke’s Assan Ouédraogo in the 70th minute, though the referee made his decision only after consulting the pitchside monitor.

Singh (25) was given a rare start for his team and justified his selection with a goal in the 31st minute.

Kai Pröger sent the All Whites playmaker clear with a well-timed pass and Singh struck an angled shot that was deflected past ‘keeper Marius Müller and into the net

The dismissal means Singh will be suspended for Hansa Rostock’s last game of the season against Paderborn.

Hansa are second bottom of the 18-club competition, needing a win in their last match in their fight to avoid relegation, as they trail Wehen Wiesbaden by a point, and their relegation rivals have a game in hand.

After a long battle to regain fitness, Singh was hoping to reboot his career in Germany after signing a three-year deal with Hansa in June 2023.

But he has struggled for game time this season, and the club has not been able to climb clear of the bottom end of the table.
