Midfielder Emma Pijnenburg signs first pro contract with top Dutch club

New Zealand age group international Emma Pijnenburg has signed her first professional contract, landing a two-year deal with Dutch top-tier club Feyenoord.

Pijnenburg (19) will be under contract at the club till mid-2026.

“I am proud of the fact that I signed my first contract with Feyenoord,” Pijnenburg told the club’s website.

“‘It has all happened very quickly in the past period. The next goal for me now is to remain a regular starter for Feyenoord Women 1.”

Manon Melis, Women’s Football Coordinator of Feyenoord said: ‘It is wonderful to see all the steps Emma has managed to take this season in a short time. She is experiencing excellent growth and has more than earned this first contract. We are watching with great interest how her development will proceed in the coming years.”

The contract caps a run of success for the midfielder since heading overseas in late 2022, after helping her Western Springs club finish runners-up in the Women’s National League.

In April 2024, she was called into the Football Ferns squad for their two-match series against Thailand, though she did not make an appearance in either game.

In July 2023, she was one of the outstanding performers for New Zealand at the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship, scoring four goals at the tournament and helping her side clinch their place at the 2024 U-20 World Cup.

She secured a place with the Feyenoord academy and got her first team call-up for the Rotterdam derby played on Sunday March 3, 2024.
