Trials will be held in Auckland on Monday May 27, 2024, for young players keen to secure college football scholarships in the United States.

Leading international sports scholarship agency FirstPoint USA will stage assessment trials at Bill McKinlay Park, Mt Wellington, for players aged 15-22.

FirstPoint USA say that since their formation in 2001, they have secured scholarships in the United States for more than 35,000 male and female athletes in multiple sports, including football.

The Auckland trials session will start at 3.30pm.

FirstPoint say their sessions usually take about three hours, from arrival to a debrief at the end.

The event includes an introductory presentation on football scholarships, a warm-up session, position-specific drills with their coaches and small-sided games to assess players’ talent and ability.

“After the event, you will receive feedback on your performance within 48 working hours; if you are successful, you will be invited to an interview at a local venue to discuss the process and your eligibility for a scholarship. If you are eligible, you will be offered a place after the interview,” the agency says.

Over the past decade, many high-profile New Zealand players have furthered their football careers and education through US college scholarships.
