PREVIEW: Tough fixtures for top four in Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship

By Joan Grey

Franklin United and Tauranga Moana have surged ahead in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship, leaving behind Onehunga Sports who stumbled last weekend against sixth-placed Melville United.

This Sunday, all eyes will be on Onehunga, who have slipped into third place, and their pivotal clash with Franklin United.

Onehunga will need to contain Franklin’s impressive goalscorer Britney Cunningham-Lee who has ten10 goals to her name this season.

If Franklin win, they’ll extend their lead at the top of the table, but if Onehunga Sports seize the home victory, the two teams will be level on points.

With no breathing room at the front of the pack, Tauranga Moana also have an important match this weekend, against fourth-placed Northern Rovers.

In other fixtures, Central United welcome Birkenhead United to their pristine Kiwitea Street pitch, while Manukau United are set to take on Melville United at Walter Massey Park.
