Papakura City on course for South Auckland’s first Talent Development Programme

Papakura City are the first South Auckland club invited to apply for the New Zealand Football Talent Development Programme (TDP).

With more than 850 registered footballers, Papakura City have the largest membership base of any sporting club in South Auckland.

Having met the primary criteria, Papakura City will dedicate the second half of 2024 to ensuring their coaching staff and curriculum meet TDP accreditation standards.

TDP-accredited clubs gain automatic entry into the NRFL youth leagues.

“It’s hugely significant that Papakura has a TDP. It’s a key driver to retain our talented kids in South Auckland,” club president Dave Johnson says.

Designed for talented footballers aged 13-17 years, boys and girls, the TDP aims to improve the quality of youth training at club level and provide them with clear aspirational pathways.

“Our members are excited, the local community is on board, and we carry full support from our ever-faithful Papakura Local Board, councillor Daniel Newman, and our extended football fraternity,” Johnson says.
