All White striker Chris Wood has regained his goalscoring touch in dramatic fashion, scoring the winner for Burnley in a crucial English Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Wood’s 79th-minute header gave Burnley a 3-2 win and lifted the club nine points clear of the relegation zone after a worrying first half of the season in which the side has struggled to find winning form.

But with a surprise 1-0 win at Liverpool followed by the victory against Villa, Burnley are now working their way up the EPL ladder. They came from behind twice to overhaul Villa.

Wood: ‘It took an age to go in’

After the game, in a televised interview, the 29-year-old All White said: “Every week I try my best to score. Sometimes it doesn’t happen but thankfully it did happen today and now it’s about me building on this and going again.

“It was a nice finish, if I say so, but it took an age to go in.’

“It’s all about character in our team, and we’ve got an abundance of it. We like to show people what we are about and what Burnley are about.

“I’m just grateful the ball went in and it was a big three points for the guys. We’re always trying to build confidence as a side we just want to keep building and to go forward.”
