Former national coach Allan Jones will make a special appearance at Auckland’s Kiwitea Street this weekend to watch Auckland City’s ISPS Handa Chatham Cup match with Tauranga City.

Jones, and his son Vaughan, will be hosted by City’s Club Ambassador Arthur Egan, as the club welcomes back its former coach for the match (Saturday June 19, 2pm).

During his spell as Auckland City’s head coach, Jones took the club to two national titles, two grand final victories and to two OFC Champions League campaigns. He led the club into its first appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

Now living in Mount Maunganui, Jones is regarded as a hero at Kiwitea Street.

Chairman Ivan Vuksich says: “Allan was responsible for raising standards at Kiwitea Street from the day he arrived. He set lofty ambitions for his coaching staff, players and himself, and that set the bar high for what we’ve become as a football club ever since.”
