Northern Rovers will host a special 3 v 3 Hungerball tournament to celebrate the opening day of the 2022 Lotto NRFL division one season.
For over-45 players, the mini-tournament at McFetridge Park, Glenfield, will be a fun way for Rovers and their Albany United visitors to welcome a new season.
The event is supported by Friends of Football who also sponsor Manukau United’s community programme in South Auckland in which Hungerball is used to encourage people of all ages to ‘have a go’ at football.

Hungerball is an inflatable pitch with six goals where each player in a 3 v 3 game defends a goal and helps team mates attack others.
It’s fun, fast and flexible for teams who can have up to eight members, using rolling subs to keep three in action.
After the mini-tournament, the Hungerball team will keep the arena open for others who want to ‘have a go’, until the 3pm kick-off between Northern Rovers and Albany United.
Lee Edwards: ‘Have fun — and get your breath back in time for kick-off’
Northern Rovers general manager Lee Edwards said:
“We’re really looking forward to the start of the new season and we wanted to do something that would entertain our more experienced players.
“They can have some fun football and get their breath back in time for the game against Albany United.”
