New signings sink former club as Northern Rovers take three-point WPL lead

posted in: News

New recruits Kate McConnell and Michaela Foster scored to help Northern Rovers to a 3-0 win against their former club, Hamilton Wanderers, on Easter Monday.

McConnell, who signed for Rovers last month, opened the scoring after only two minutes in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League game at Becroft Park.

In the 11th minute, another former Wanderers player, defender Michaela Foster, doubled her side’s lead, a gap they took into the half-time break.

On the hour, substitute Shannon Leigh Henson, a player with experience at English club Leicester City, scored the third goal to put the result beyond doubt.

The win means both teams have completed their games in hand, and all eight clubs have played four matches.

Rovers have a 100% winning record and lead the table by four points while Wanderers and promoted Tauranga City remain winless at the foot of the ladder.
