Auckland United beat West Coast Rangers 3-1 in Women’s Premier League

Auckland United continue to stalk leaders Northern Rovers in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League with a 3-1 win against West Coast Rangers at Keith Hay Park.

Playing the only Saturday fixture of the round, United made home advantage count, charging to a 2-0 lead by half-time.

Ruby Nathan opened the scoring for United in the 25th minute.

Three minutes before half-time, Rangers conceded their second goal — judged to be an own goal credited to Karly Knight.

The second half was fairly even but the points were secured when United’s Jess Philpot extended her team’s lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 70th minute.

With seven minutes to go, Rangers’ Knight compensated for her own goal by scoring a consolation goal for the visitors.

The win moved United into second place on the table — for 24 hours at least — while Rangers remain in mid-table.
