Ngaruawahia United take over at top of Lotto NRFL second division table

posted in: Lotto NRFL, News

Promoted Ngaruawahia United have moved to the top of the Lotto NRFL second division after a 3-0 win against Oratia United at Centennial Park.

The result leaves the Green Machine as the only unbeaten team in the 10-club competition after Bucklands Beach suffered their first defeat at Claudelands Rovers.

Here’s our round-up of round four:

Ngaruawahia go top after second-half goals seal victory

Ngaruawahia United’s hot start to 2022 continued with their 3-0 win at home against Oratia United.

The home side went ahead after 26 minutes through Ben Moore who rejoined the club last week after a brief stint with Fencibles United.

Ngaruawahia went into the break with their 1-0 lead.

They took control of the match in a five-minute spell midway through the second half.

Daniel Ngungambili doubled the home team’s lead in the 66th minute before Jack Marden put the result beyond doubt with a third goal in the 71st minute.

Both goalscorers joined Ngaruawahia from local rivals Claudelands Rovers.

Reds secure first win of the season after long trek north

Cambridge got their first win of the season after a 333km trek to Northland’s Trigg Arena delivered a 2-0 result.

The Reds took the lead in the 28th minute through Glen Carmichael, a key player in the club’s 2017 WaiBOP Premiership title-winning season who left but has returned for the 2022 season.

The sides turned around with the visitors ahead 1-0.

Cambridge doubled their lead in the 69th minute through last season’s top goalscorer Josh Clarkin.

As the clock wound down, five players went into referee Darren Johnston’s book for cautions, four of them from Cambridge.

But the visitors saw the game out to take the three points on the long trip home.

Rovers come from behind to topple Bucklands Beach

Claudelands Rovers stay within a point of table-toppers Ngaruawahia United after a 2-1 victory over Bucklands Beach at Galloway Park.

Bucklands Beach arrived as the divisional leaders and took a first-half lead.

However, Claudelands fought back to win the match with goals scored by Andrew Olsen and Henry Thompson in the second spell.
