All White striker Alex Greive helps secure St Mirren’s Premiership status

Former Birkenhead United striker Alex Greive opened the scoring to help his St Mirren side avoid relegation from Scotland’s Premiership with a 2-0 win against Dundee.

Greive was gifted a chance in front of goal — see main photo — after only four minutes when former Saints defender Charlie Adam passed across the face of his own goal, allowing the All White striker to tuck the ball home.

St Mirren’s win ensures the club will remain in next year’s Premiership while Dundee are now at risk of relegation.

After the game, Dundee’s Adam blamed himself for the goal.

“I take responsibility for the first goal,” he said.

“You come away from home and in the first 10 or 15 minutes, you try to keep it tight.

“I have tried to be clever and play it back to the goalie but it was never on and I should have just cleared my lines.

“I accept what I have done.”
