New recruits come up trumps for Hibiscus Coast in second division win

posted in: News

Good recruitment paid off for Hibiscus Coast when three new season signings all scored to give their side a 3-1 win against Beachlands Maraetai in the Lotto NRFL second division.

Playing their rescheduled round four game under floodlights at Papakura City’s McLennan Park, the sides were level 1-1 at half-time but Coast took control in the second spell.

Hibiscus Coast scored first when Jorge Marsden, who moved to the club from Ellerslie in the close season, found the net after 17 minutes.

Akshay Shandil levelled after 27 minutes.

In the second half, Trent Mayes — who spent last season with Albany United — put Coast ahead with 72 minutes gone.

Two minutes, later substitute Matthew Harland stretched the Coast lead to 3-1 to complete a hat-trick for new recruits. Harland had joined Coast this season from Puhoi Sports.

The win takes Coast a couple of places up the table, into fourth spot, while Beachlands Maraetai stay seventh.
