Unbeaten record stays intact for Ngaruawahia

Ngaruawahia United remain the only unbeaten side in the second division, despite letting slip their position at the top of the table.

The Green Machine headed to Tuakau for their game against struggling Franklin United who were coming off a morale-boosting Chatham Cup win against Oratia United in midweek.

Franklin went ahead in the night minute through veteran Tim Richardson.

Ngaruawahia’s Daniel Ngungambili levelled in the 17th minute and the sides went into half-time at 1-1.

The visitors took the lead in the 67th minute through substitute Federico Marquez.

However, Franklin’s Richardson scored his second of the match in the 84th minute to force the draw.

Clarkin double gets Reds home against Oratia

Leading goalscorer Josh Clarkin came off the bench to score a double for Cambridge in their 2-0 win against bottom-placed Oratia United.

The teams played a scoreless first half at John Kerkhof Park before Clarkin was introduced to the action in the 50th minute.

The striker put the Reds ahead in the 57th minute.

Clarkin sealed the points with a second goal with time almost up.

Coast maintain pressure with 3-1 win at West Auckland

Second-half goals by Hibiscus Coast made sure the side kept up the pressure on the division’s leaders with a 3-1 win at West Auckland’s Brains Park.

The home side had taken the lead through Haylen West after 12 minutes.

Player-coach Mitchell Browne levelled for Coast in the 18th minute.

The sides were locked 1-1 at the break but Coast striker Adam Dickinson grabbed a goal within a minute of the restart.

Any risk of surrendering the win was removed in added time when substitute Julian Stevenson found a third goal for the visitors.

Beachlands Maraetai earn upset win in Hamilton

On form, Claudelands Rovers went into their game against Beachlands Maraetai as favourites but their Auckland visitors upset expectations with a 2-0 win at Galloway Park.

The damage was done midway through the first half when Akshay Shandil opened the scoring in the 15th minute and then his captain, Isaac Harraway, added another five minutes later.

Despite the loss, Rovers remain in reach of the league leaders.
