Supporters send show of support to the All Whites ahead of World Cup play-off

Friends of Football members and supporters showed their support for the All Whites at a celebratory lunch held at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium on the eve of the World Cup play-off against Costa Rica.

Looking out over the pitch where the 1982 All Whites won so many of their qualifying games, the audience was packed with former internationals who played in every decade from the 1960s till now.

Members of the 1982 squad mingled with fans, sharing memories of New Zealand’s first successful World Cup campaign.

The 2010 coaching duo of Ricki Herbert and Brian Turner and legendary player Ivan Vicelich shared memories of their campaign.

Broadcaster Andrew Dewhurst compered the formal part of the function, interviewing former national coaches such as Barrie Truman, Herbert and Kevin Fallon (see main photo).

At the end of the session, the audience performed a wave of support to send their best wishes to Danny Hay and the current All Whites as they prepare for their showdown in Doha.

Watch the wave of support!
