Metro’s Jaydyn Englefield leads the Lotto NRFL first division’s Golden Boot table after his hat-trick sunk Onehunga Mangere United under Friday night floodlights at Phyllis St.
The sides were tied 0-0 at the break but only because Onehunga Mangere missed a penalty late in the first half.
Englefield gave Metro the lead with a penalty in the 56th minute.
Seven minutes later, in the rain, Englefield doubled Metro’s lead.
The 22-year-old striker, who joined Metro from North Shore United in April, completed his hat-trick, again from the penalty spot, in the fourth minute of added time.
His latest goals give Englefield 10 for the season, and the lead in the Golden Boot.
The win lifted Metro three places up the first division table while the result did not favours to Onehunga Mangere who could have gone as high as third with a win.
Both sides will watch the rest of round 13 tomorrow with interest.
