West Auckland join the second division title race with win at Beachlands-Maraetai

posted in: News

West Auckland have joined the title race in the Lotto NRFL second division after a 2-1 win at Beachlands Maraetai on Friday.

Playing the only second division fixture of the Matariki holiday, the two sides lined up at Te Puru Park.

Beachlands Maraetai struck quickly, going ahead in the first minute through Aaron Parry.

That was the only goal of the half.

When the second half got underway, West Auckland immediately levelled through Anthony Lockton.

The turning point in the game came after 63 minutes when Jordan Hearn put the West Auckland side ahead for the first time in the game.

The visitors saw out the last half-hour to take home the three points and join Bucklands Beach and Hibiscus Coast on 15 league points, just two behind leaders Ngaruawahia United.

Those three clubs play their fixtures on Saturday (June 25).
