Van Hattum winner preserves Hibiscus Coast’s perfect winning record

posted in: News

A late goal by Peta van Hattum has kept the 100% winning record intact for Hibiscus Coast who extended their lead of the NRF Women’s Championship with a 1-0 win at Franklin United.

After winning their first nine games, Coast travelled to Drury to face third-placed Franklin United, a side with the competition’s second-best defence, having conceded only five goals.

And for 86 minutes, it looked as though the Franklin rearguard was going to hold out.

But in the 87th minute, van Hattum scored the winner, her 11th of the season, to make it win number 10.

Meanwhile, in Sunday’s other game, Onehunga Sports beat Central United 2-1 to stay in pursuit of leaders Coast.

After a goalless first half, Nikoline Meldgaard broke the deadlock at Waikaraka Park, scoring for Sports in the 51st minute.

Substitute Jessica Gallagher doubled the Onehunga lead on the hour.

Central picked up a consolation goal in the 87th minute through substitute Nicole Loader.
