Losses for men and women on Day 2 of World University Futsal Championships

posted in: News

Auckland United’s Alosi Bloomfield scored New Zealand’s only goal as her side lost their opening match at the FISU World University Futsal Championships in Portugal.

Playing at the UMinho’s Sports Complex in Braga, Portugal, the New Zealand side lost 5-1 to Poland, after going behind 3-0 within seven minutes.

Bloomfield, who plays for Auckland United in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League, reduced the deficit a minute later but Poland always had control of the game.

With Poland top of the three-nation group, New Zealand must beat Israel in the last pool game to be played on Thursday (NZT).

Meanwhile, in the men’s championship, New Zealand lost 2-1 to Argentina.

A late goal by Ethan Martin gave hope to the Kiwis but they couldn’t claw back their opponents’ 2-0 lead.

New Zealand play unbeaten Portugal in their final group game on Thursday (NZT).
