Melville United to hold 50th anniversary celebrations in November

posted in: Events

Melville United are to hold 50-year celebrations in early November 2022 with a gathering of past and present players, members and supporters.

The event, over the weekend of November 4-6, will mark the 50th anniversary since Bob Owens and Tony Tatler decided to form a new Hamilton football club.

That initial Melville District Schoolboys club has grown into the Melville United AFC of today.

The weekend will include the following events:

  • A Friday night Mix & Mingle cocktail evening at Gower Park (including historic slide show and anniversary merchandise).
  • A number of Saturday matches at Gower Park, from men’s Over 50s to a Women’s Past & Present match, to academy mini-games. (The programme and schedule for this is still quite open because it is also possible Melville’s men’s first team and U17 team may still be in competition in national round play that weekend.)
  • A formal dinner (with guest speaker and band) on Saturday November 5. This will also include a short presentation on plans for future facility development.

A range of anniversary apparel will also be available (more details later).

Anyone with old photos of Melville players or club occasions (preferably high-resolution scanned copies) are asked to forward them ti the following email address: melvilleunitedafc1972@gmail.com.
