Onehunga Sports gain ground on Hibiscus Coast in NRF Women’s Championship

posted in: News

Onehunga Sports have made ground on NRF Championship leaders Hibiscus Coast with a 3-1 win at bottom-placed Birkenhead United.

With unbeaten Coast having a bye, Sports took the chance to creep three points nearer, thanks to goals from Hannah Carter and a double from Jayna Bennett.

Birkenhead’s goal was a late consolation from Dariah Parkinson-Irwin.

Franklin United stay in third place after their match at Central United was abandoned after a nasty head knock to Nataleigh Hokai.

Central were leading 2-1 at the time of the abandonment.

Bay Olympic players must have thought they were on their way to their first win of the season when they led Beachlands Maraetai 2-1 at half-time.

Goals from Molly Flynn and Dahyoung Kim had twice put Bay Olympic in front.

However, two second-half goals from Danielle Grimmer got Beachlands Maraetai home for their third win of the season.
