Auckland City almost certain to meet Central Coast in OFC Champions League semi

posted in: News

Auckland City will almost certainly play Central Coast of the Solomon Islands in Sunday’s semi-finals of the OFC Champions League tournament.

The only way City will not play Central Coast is if Hienghène Sport or Rewa FC win by a huge margin in their final pool game on Thursday, and the Navy Blues lose badly to Nikato Sokattak.

In that unlikely scenario, Auckland City would meet AS Vènus, of Tahiti, in the last four.

This follow’s the conclusion of games in Group A at Auckland’s Ngahue Reserve on Wednesday (August 10).

Central Coast joined AS Vènus in the knockout stages by beating Papua New Guinea’s Lae City 3-2.

AS Vènus topped Group A despite losing their last pool game 1-0 to Galaxy on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Auckland City go into Thursday’s final group match knowing a semi-final berth is assured, regardless of the result.
