A hat-trick from Britney Cunningham-Lee has inspired Ellerslie to an emphatic 6-1 win against Kate Sheppard Cup finalists Auckland United.

Playing at Michaels Ave Reserve in the pouring rain on Thursday night, Ellerslie took a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time and then finished off the job in the second half.

Cunningham-Lee, who is Ellerslie’s leading scorer this season, opened her account with a goal in the 21st minute.

Sarah Carpenter, who joined Ellerslie from Hamilton Wanderers this season, doubled her side’s lead with a 29th-minute goal.

Cunningham-Lee finished the half with her second goal.

Ellerslie stretched their lead to 4-0 within two minutes of the restart, through Kathryn Gow.

Auckland United pulled back a goal in the 54th minute when Bree Johnston found the net.

But Cat Pretty restored the four-goal margin with a goal in the 77th minute before Cunningham-Lee completed her hat-trick with the game’s final goal in the last minute.

Cunningham-Lee now has nine goals for the season.
