Generosity sends four more football fans to World Cup finals through lottery

A generous gesture by investment company Forsyth Barr means four more football fans will get to the World Cup finals in Qatar as winners in football’s national lottery.

Of the eight winning tickets drawn last Saturday in the NZ Football Foundation lottery, two had been bought by Forsyth Barr.

Since then, the company asked that their tickets go back for a re-draw, to give more people the chance to win trips-for-two to Qatar.

The company had bought 250 tickets to support 25 Auckland clubs to show their support to their local community.

Key members of the Forsyth Barr team who had co-ordinated the ticket donation were Grant Collie and Chris Lambert.

In an email to participating clubs and schools, the Football Foundation says:

“Through some extreme luck, two of their 250 tickets were drawn as winners (one in Auckland and one for the nationwide draw).

“True to their word to support the community, Grant and Chris asked us at the foundation to offer the tickets for re-draw.

“They asked that we add everyone throughout New Zealand that has brought a ticket to be entered in these two draws.

“We have actioned their wishes and today, set up and created two further nationwide draws.”

The winners of these two additional tickets are:

  • Lydia Gonzalez who supported Beachlands Maraetai (Northern)
  • Brooke MacDonald who supported Melville United (WaiBOP)

Each of these winners will get trips for two to Qatar to watch four World Cup games.

“We would again like to thank Grant and Chris and the wider team at Forsyth Barr for their wonderful gesture of “paying it forward” not only through the initial purchase of 250 tickets but then offering their winning tickets to be drawn again,” the Foundation said.

“They have to be our player of the season for sure!”
