Phoenix defender blocked from facing Jets so will head to Christchurch

posted in: News

On-loan left-back Lucas Mauragis has been blocked from playing for the Wellington Phoenix against parent club Newcastle Jets this Saturday so will head to Christchurch instead for a Men’s National League appearance.

The Australian age group international will get game time for the Phoenix reserves in their national league match against Christchurch United, Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay says.

At his Friday media conference, Talay said when Phoenix first negotiated their season-long loan of Mauragis (20), he was allowed to play against the Jets “and then last week they changed their minds.”

“Fortunately for him, he didn’t travel with the group so he’ll get some minutes in his legs with the reserves,” he said.
