Two local derbies kick off huge weekend for women’s football in Auckland

A huge weekend for women’s football gets underway in Auckland with two high-profile Women’s National League fixtures to be played under Friday night lights.

The top three teams in the competition will be in action as leaders Eastern Suburbs host Auckland United, and Western Springs play Northern Rovers.

Both games kick off at 7.30pm, are free entry and will be live streamed.

A huge weekend for women’s football

These two derbies will showcase local football to the many visitors pouring into Auckland for Saturday’s draw for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup being held at the Aotea Centre.

Labour Weekend has made it possible for the Women’s National League to hold two full rounds of competition.

The four fixtures on Friday/Saturday will be reversed for Labour Monday.

That means Suburbs will travel to Auckland United, and Springs will head to Rovers’ McFetridge Park.

Here’s how the two rounds of fixtures line up for the weekend of October 21-24:
