West Coast Rangers win national U-19s women’s tournament in Napier

West Coast Rangers have won the three-day national U-19s women’s tournament in Napier, beating Ellerslie 3-0 in the final on Labour Monday.

The Rangers side outplayed the hardworking Ellerslie side, taking a 2-0 lead by half-time.

Te Waiariki Read opened the scoring after 14 minutes before Emily Lyon doubled Rangers’ advantage three minutes later.

Eight minutes into the second spell, Jess Smith extended Rangers’ lead to 3-0.

In the 42nd minute, Ellerslie had their best chance of the game when a desperate tackle prevented a shot, leading to claims for a penalty that were turned away.

Rangers’ dominance was shown in the post-match stats. They had four shots, while Ellerslie had none. Rangers forced four corners, and the Ponies none.

The three-day annual tournament was successfully hosted by Napier City Rovers.
