Cambridge appoint Jordan Shaw as head coach for club’s 75th anniversary season

Cambridge FC have appointed Jordan Shaw (30) as their head coach for the 2023 season in which the club will play in the Lotto NRFL Southern Conference.

Jordan Shaw.

Shaw has a decade of experience playing at Northern League and National League level, mainly for Hamilton Wanderers.

Making the announcement, the club says: “With 2023 being our 75th year, we look forward to Jordan bringing a fresh new perspective to the club and wish him and the team all success.”

The appointment reunites Shaw with a club where he had links as a youth player — as a teenager, he was a guest player for Cambridge’s side at the national U-19s tournament in Napier.

At Cambridge, he replaced last season’s co-coaches Anthony Meiklejohn (now at Te Awamutu) and Bradley Rea (to coach Matamata Swifts next season).

Shaw’s appointment is the latest in a reshuffle of coaches in the Waikato.

These include:

  • Former Papamoa director of football Jarrod Young takes over from Sam Wilkinson at Melville United in January.
  • Claudelands Rovers have named former Cambridge and Matamata Swifts coach Paul Richardson as their head coach for next year’s NRFL Southern Conference campaign.
  • Outgoing Cambridge coach Bradley Rea has been named head coach for Matamata Swifts next season.
  • Te Awamutu have appointed former Papamoa and Cambridge coach Anthony Meiklejohn as the coach of their Lotto NRFL Southern Conference side for 2023, with former Cambridge and Claudelands Rovers coach Joe Gifford joining as his assistant.
