Football returns to former ‘home’ for this year’s men’s Grand Final

Mt Smart Stadium — the home ground of the All Whites in the early 1980s — will again host top football when the Grand Final of the Men’s National League is hosted there.

Auckland City will meet Wellington Olympic at Mt Smart on Sunday December 4, with a 2pm kick off.

Tickets have already gone on sale with adult seats priced at $10 and children under 14 free.

Announcing the final venue, NZ Football said North Harbour Stadium was unavailable due to its summer use as a baseball venue.

Mt Smart Stadium had become available due to the cancellation of a concert there by Canadian singer Justin Beiber.

“While we’re sure that music fans are sorry, we are delighted to be able to take the final to one of the leading stadiums in the country,” a NZF spokesperson said.

The Grand Final brings together the winners of the Northern League and the Central League as they face off for the right to be named national champions.

Auckland City are striving for a quadruple title haul, wanting to add the MNL to the OFC Champions League, the Northern League and the Chatham Cup.
