Football Ferns drop two places in FIFA’s latest women’s world rankings

New Zealand’s Football Ferns have dropped two places to 24th in the latest world rankings released by FIFA.

The re-rating follows the Ferns’ recent results against Japan and Korea Republic, and takes into account the performances of sides with rankings close to them.

Portugal, for instance, were 27th in August but have moved into 22nd place after positive results in their qualifiers for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

New Zealand play Portugal in Hamilton in February.

Meanwhile, the United States continue to lead the world rankings.

Germany have moved into second place, displacing Sweden who drop to third.

New Zealand’s pool opponents at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup are Norway (ranked 13th, down from 12th), Switzerland (ranked 21st, no change) and Philippines (ranked 53rd, no change).
