Three newcomers to the Football Ferns say they’ll relish the chance to test themselves against the best in the world in New Zealand’s two-match series against the United States.
Eastern Suburbs duo Deven Jackson and Tayla O’Brien, and Canterbury United Pride skipper Rebecca Lake have got their international call-up as domestic-based players as the games fall outside the FIFA international window.
“It was the last thing I expected,” O’Brien told Newshub.
“Honestly, it was a massive shock,” said Lake.
“I’ve dreamt of this as a kid,” said Jackson. “It’s really exciting to be in the team.
“Some of the players I’ve watched, so it’s cool to be right there alongside them.”
The trio are determined to seize the opportunity to step up from the Women’s National League.
“It shows to other domestic players that there are opportunities when you perform, regardless of what league you’re in,” Jackson told Newshub.
