East Coast Bays host a special game in the club’s calendar on Saturday when two teams meet to celebrate the memory of football enthusiast Paul Caunter.

Paul Caunter, a man with connections to many football clubs in Auckland and the North Shore, died in January 2022.

On Saturday, teams captained by his sons Louie and Jack will play at Bay City Park for the Paul Caunter Memorial Cup.

It’s the second staging of the match, though the inaugural event was hampered by pandemic restrictions.

Promoting the game, East Coast Bays said:

“Louie’s team came out 4-1 winners in the inaugural fixture, leaving the fire of vengeance burning for Jack for a year.”

An exciting game of football … and a special day

The Caunter brothers are both first team players with Bays and their invitation teams will comprise of friends and young men who were coached by Paul.

“There will be music, the bar will be open and the sun shining (hopefully)!”, the club says.

The purpose of the game is to bring people together and raise money to support men’s mental health.

“Come down to watch an exciting game of football and take part in a very special day.”
