Wood latest: Reports say New Zealand striker has approved move to Forest

posted in: News

British media reports suggest All Whites striker Chris Wood has approved a loan move from Newcastle United to English Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Athletic reports that negotiations between the clubs are underway for deal in the January transfer window that would take Wood (31) to Forest on loan but with an option for the East Midlands clubs to buy him later.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who is regarded as an authoritative tracker of transfer deals, tweeted: “Player has already approved the move, it’s on the clubs now but advancing.’

Speculation has been mounting since the weekend that Wood could be ready to move from Newcastle United where he has mainly been used off the bench or as injury cover for England international Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

Wood joined high-flying Newcastle United for £25 million last season from Burnley.

Forest have been battling to clear the EPL’s relegation zone and manager Steve Cooper has been seeking attacking reinforcements following a groin injury to Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi that will sideline him for up to two months.
