Experienced midfielder joins Mt Albert Ponsonby for Lotto NRFL Championship campaign

Mount Albert Ponsonby have signed attacking midfielder Jamie Mason for their Lotto NRFL Championship campaign.

Mason (33) spent last season with league rivals West Coast Rangers, who won promotion to this year’s Northern League.

The experienced Mason has played for Auckland clubs, including Northern Rovers, Birkenhead United and East Coast Bays, and for Wellington’s Island Bay.

He has played National League football for Bay United, and has also played in Oceania competitions for Samoan clubs Lupe Ole Soaga and Kiwi FC.

MAP will be coached this year by former Auckland City and Bay Olympic player Darren White and assistant Sam Jasper.

They have already gained commitment for the season ahead from some of the club’s key players from 2022.

Captain Lewis Black (34) is back for his ninth season with MAP’s first team.

He’s scored 35 goals in 150 appearances.

Nick Hindson (29), MAP’s 2022 first team Player of the Year, is back and looking to bring up his 100th first team appearance in 2023.

The speedy winger currently has 90 appearances to his name (with 21 goals).

Midfielder Marshall Gurney (29) is back for another season.

He clocked up his 103rd appearances in the blue and gold last season, and has scored 34 goals for the club.

Jonny Cantle (26) has played up front and at left back for MAP but last season cemented his spot in the starting line-up as a central defender.

The 2022 first team Supporters’ Player of the Year will start his sixth season for the club.
