Northern League Golden Boot winner leaves Hamilton to join Wellington Olympic

Northern League Golden Boot winner Derek Tieku has transferred from Hamilton Wanderers to Central League champions Wellington Olympic.

Tieku, who scored 17 goals in last season’s 22-round Northern League, signed for Olympic in February and made his new club debut in Saturday’s OFC Champions League play-off game against Auckland City.

The former Crystal Palace U-21 player came off the bench in the 66th minute of Olympic’s 1-1 draw at Martin Luckie Park, Wellington.

Tieku (28) was one of Wanderers’ standout players last season, and previously played for Eastern Suburbs.

Wellington Olympic have also signed the Central League Golden Boot winner from last season, Hamish Watson.

Watson, a former Wellington Phoenix player, crossed town from Miramar Rangers to join Olympic.
