Former Football Fern Abbey Erceg has captained her new club side to a 3-1 victory against the United States national U-23 women’s team.

Defender Erceg (33) was traded to National Women’s Soccer League club Racing Louisville in January, in a move that left her “shocked and disappointed”.

Since then, she has acknowledged the process she has been through to accept the move, and told a media briefing she’s positive about the season ahead with Racing Louisville.

Erceg has quickly taken a leadership role with Racing Louisville, and anchored the Racing Louisville defence as her side completed their nine-week pre-season programme with a confidence-building 3-1 win against the national U-23 side.

All the goals came in the first half with Racing Louisville’s goals scored by new signings Finnish defender Elli Pikkujämsä, newly-arrived forward Uchenna Kanu and Brazilian midfielder Ary Borges.

Erceg was substituted after 66 minutes.

Racing Louisville start their NWSL season at Houston Dash on Sunday March 26.
