Te Awamutu sign young players from Southern Conference rivals Cambridge

Lotto NRFL Southern Conference side Te Awamutu have signed a group of young players from local rivals Cambridge.

New coaches Anthony Meiklejohn and Joe Gifford — who moved to Te Awamutu from Cambridge — have been recruiting players from their old club.

Joining from Waipa rivals Cambridge are Colin Coster (27), who was a player-coach of the Cambridge U-23s, goalkeeper Sam Reidy (21) and defender Willem Dikmans (21).

Other recruits William Jackson and Kyran Lockwood (18) are former Cambridge players who have returned from overseas.

Te Awamutu have also re-signed midfielder Marc Glenister (24) and full back Blair Penning, both of whom moved across from Cambridge last season.

Other newcomers at Te Awamutu include Ollie Giles (15), who was with Tauranga Blue Rovers last season, while Jack Edger (17) joins the club to join older brother Thomas Edger who was last year’s Young Player of the Year.

Experienced captain Mike Roberts (37) returns to lead the team for another season, as he starts his third season with the club after arriving from South African club Vasco de Gama FC.

Returning for another season with Te Awamutu are Ethan Omundsen, Bradley Egglestone (back after an injury-interrupted season last year), Cameron Gordon, Euan McLeod, Dylan Brett, Steffan Foulkes, Dylan Yates, Ben Young, Braedyn Webber, Jono O’Sullivan, Ben Grainger, Matt Kozak, Logan Whale and Noah Skipps.
