Western Springs have signed attacking midfielder Reid Drake from Northern League rivals Auckland City.

Drake (27) has signed in time for Saturday’s season opener when he’ll face his old club at Kiwitea Street.

The Napier-born player has spent six of the past eight seasons at Auckland City, with short stints at Eastern Suburbs, Central United and Glenfield Rovers.

Announcing the arrival of Drake, Western Springs listed his achievements with the Navy Blues:

  • Three appearances at FIFA Club World Cup.
  • Three-time Oceania Champions League winner.
  • Five-time NZ National League winner.
  • Twice a NZ National League Grand Final winner.
  • Three-time Northern League winner.
  • Chatham Cup winner.
  • Nike Lunar New Year Cup Hong Kong winner.

“Yep, you can see why we are so excited,” the club told social media followers.

New head coach Scott Hales, who joined Springs from Wellington’s Miramar Rangers, has been building his squad over summer.

Recruits include teenage striker Keegan Kelly from East Coast Bays, where he was last season’s top goalscorer, and goalkeeper Regan Diver from Northern Rovers.
