Auckland City’s group game called off ‘due to opposing team’s player injuries’

Tournament organisers say Auckland City’s match against Samoa’s Lupe Ole Soaga in the OFC Champions League will not go ahead.

In a statement shortly before the planned kick-off, Oceania Football Confederation said:

“OFC wishes to advise that the match between Auckland City FC and Lupe Ole Soaga SC will not take place due to player injuries in the Lupe Ole Soaga SC squad.

“The match was scheduled to kick-off at 12pm (Vanuatu time) at Luganville’s Soccer City stadium.

“OFC will now refer the matter to the appropriate bodies.

“Suva FC and the Solomon Warriors meet at 3pm (Vanuatu time) to determine which team joins Auckland City FC in the last four from Group A. The Fijian side has a superior goal-difference and needs a draw to progress while the Solomon Warriors need to win.

“A capacity crowd of close to 5,000 is expected to pack the stadium.”

Auckland City will top their group following Lupe Ole Soaga’s withdrawal as officials awarded a 3-0 default result.

Result

Lupe Ole Soaga 0
Auckland City 3 (default win)
