Jay Herdman on bench as coach Bazeley rotates U-20 line-up at World Cup

posted in: News

Midfielder Jay Herdman has been named on the subs’ bench for New Zealand’s match against Argentina at the FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup.

Herdman and Ben Wallace both scored against Uzbekistan in New Zealand’s previous game but are on the bench for Saturday’s final pool game.

Coach Darren Bazeley also appears to be protecting players who have already collected yellow cards at the tournament with five of them named as substitutes (Hughes, O’Leary, McKay, Wallace and Lukas Kelly-Heald).

Jackson Manuel is in the starting line-up and he too has a yellow card to his name.

A second yellow for any of these players would force them to miss the Round of 16.

Argentina have dropped captain Agustin Giay to their bench — he too has a yellow card.
