Auckland United sign Wellington Phoenix midfielder Chloe Knott

Midfielder Chloe Knott has signed to play for Auckland United in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League until she rejoins Wellington Phoenix for the next women’s A-League season.

Knott (27) is on a long-term contract with the Phoenix but will play for United until she returns to Wellington for A-League pre-season.

She played 18 games for the Phoenix in the recently-completed Liberty A-League competition, and she captained the side in the absence of club captain Lily Afeld whose season was disrupted by a long-term injury.

Knott will be reunited with United’s head coach Ben Bate, for whom she played when the pair were with Northern Rovers in 2021.

Auckland United are chasing back-to-back qualifications for the Women’s National League, for which they need to finish in the top four of the Women’s Premier League.

United are currently in third place, a point behind co-leaders Eastern Suburbs and West Coast Rangers, but with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Western Springs have regained the three competition points they lost for an administrative error with the registration of Football Fern legend Maia Jackman in the club’s match with Hibiscus Coast.
