Football-friendly Between Two Beers podcast gains national recognition

The Between Two Beers podcast — which has featured many football interviews — has been recognised at two sets of national media awards.

Co-hosted by well-known football enthusiasts Steven Holloway and Seamus Marten, more than 120 episodes of the podcast have been produced since it made its debut in November 2019.

The show was named co-winner of the award for the Best Original Ongoing Podcast at the 2023 Voyager Media Awards, sharing the award with RNZ’s The Detail.

The podcast was also a finalist at the 2023 NZ Radio Awards, in the Best Entertainment Podcast category.

Originally launched with a series of football interview subjects, the podcast has since diversified with guests from other sports and the world of entertainment. The episodes feature long-form interviews with their subjects.

Holloway, a former National League player, and Marten, a regular presenter on Sky Sport’s The Kiwi Football Fix, have built a growing audience for the podcast.

In a social media post following their award success, the pair said: We’re so excited about what the future of Between Two Beers looks like, and can’t thank you enough for joining us on this ride — every listen, every bit of feedback we get, it means the world to us.”

Football guests have included Ryan Nelsen, Danny Hay, Paul Ifill, Kevin Fallon, Roger Wilkinson, Des Buckingham, Jeremy Christie, Sarah Gregorius, Priscilla Duncan, Aaron Clapham, Chris James, Jeremy Brockie, Declan Edge, Maia Jackman, Kris Bright, Cole Tinkler, Sam Wilkinson, Neil Emblen, Che Bunce and Paul Nixon.
