WATCH: New Zealand squad go into quarter-finals ‘well prepared and confident’

New Zealand coach Leon Birnie says his team has prepared well for Sunday’s quarter-final against Solomon Islands at the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship in Fiji.

Speaking to OFC Media, Birnie said:

“I think for this whole tournament, our focus has been on us and our processes, so for us to go and play Solomons … we’ll be focusing on a couple of things, one being more clinical in the final third and then we’re we’re really looking at if we can lift the tempo in certain periods of the game.

“For us, it’s … keeping our standards high, making sure that the areas we’ve worked on at training we can see transpire in the games and I think if we can do that, then it should put us in good stead for the game.”

New Zealand’s Emma Pijnenburg told OFC Media preparations for the quarter-final had gone well.

“We’re definitely feeling pretty confident,” she said.

“The first game … it wasn’t our best game but we’ve definitely improved, and I think we’re feeling good.

“We’ve been training this week and it’s been pretty good.”
