All Whites midfielder Callum McCowatt has signed for Danish Superliga club Silkeborg IF.

McCowatt (24) moves from Danish first division side FC Helsingør for whom he has played more than 80 games since moving there in 2020.

Announcing the signing, Silkeborg’s sporting director Jesper Stüker said:

“We are incredibly happy that we have succeeded in bringing Callum McCowatt to SIF. He is a dynamic player who is good at challenging and can find solutions on his own in front of goal.

“He has proven in his career in Helsingør, in his home country and on the national team, that he is a goal threat and active in the last third of the pitch.

“We believe we can develop Callum’s abilities even more here in SIF, where we believe he will fit well into our game system. He covers many of the offensive positions, and in SIF he is initially intended for a role as an 8, but we know that he is also capable as a 10.”

McCowatt said:

“I am very happy to be here. It is a lovely club and I have received an incredibly warm welcome.

“I have been in Denmark for three years and followed Silkeborg IF from a distance. It seems to be a fantastic club that has really developed nicely in recent years.

“I think SIF and I are the perfect match. I am an attacking midfielder who loves to score goals and make assists.

“At the same time, I also appreciate a good tackle and hard work. So I’m really looking forward to getting started and meeting my teammates and the coaches and starting to contribute.”

McCowatt played his youth football for Greenhithe, Forrest Hill Milford United, East Coast Bays and Team Wellington.

His senior career started with Western Suburbs before spells with Auckland City, Eastern Suburbs and the Wellington Phoenix.

An age group international with New Zealand’s U-17, U-20 and U-23 sides, McCowatt made his full international debut in 2019.
