Football Ferns playing Italy in warm-up game behind closed doors

New Zealand are playing a warm-up match against Italy on Friday as both teams prepare for the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 20.

The Matariki match was to be played behind closed doors, with no media or spectators present, and only the line-ups, scorers and final result will be made public.

Italy are currently rated 16th in the FIFA world rankings, while New Zealand are ranked 26th.

Though the venue has not been disclosed, both squads are based in Auckland.

The Ferns’ base training camp is at Auckland United’s Keith Hay Park, while Italy are based at Birkenhead United’s Shepherds Park.
