Football Ferns defender Grace Neville has agreed a one-year extension to her contract with English club London City Lionesses.

Neville (23) has made 53 appearances for the club, having signed from Arsenal five seasons ago.

The Lionesses play in the Women’s Championship, the second tier of English women’s competition, and missed promotion last season.

Neville will be joined at the club by new signing Paige Satchell, a Football Ferns teammate who is out of contract with A-League club Wellington Phoenix.

Neville told the club’s website:

“The club has a lot of unfinished business in the league. We have very high ambitions, and we’ve got the right people coming through the door in terms of coaching staff. I’m very excited to work with Carolina (Morace) and Nicola (Williams).

“Their philosophy and style of coaching is very technical, which is what I think the league lacks. Having been here for five seasons, (signing a new contract) feels like coming home.”

Assistant Coach Nicola Williams said:

“Grace is one of those players who really plays for the team.

“It’s really important that she has come back for another season because she really wants to make sure that we push for some of the objectives that she has been aiming for over the last couple of seasons.

“In addition to helping the team improve, one of our priorities is developing and producing national team players, so it’s very positive for us to have Grace back.”

The London-born defender switched her international allegiance to New Zealand and made four appearances this year for the Football Ferns but missed selected to the 23-player FIFA Women’s World Cup squad.
