Christchurch United continue goalscoring run as FC Twenty 11 head for drop

posted in: News, Southern League

FC Twenty 11 face relegation from the Southern League after a 5-0 midweek loss to champions Christchurch United.

The result ensures FC Twenty 11 can’t clear the bottom spot in the competition which concludes on Saturday with its last round of fixtures.

The win gives Christchurch United 20 goals in their last two outings, having beaten Green Island 15-3 last weekend.

That margin is the biggest in the Southern League since Cashmere Technical’s 11-2 win against Mosgiel in 2022.

Tuesday’s win against FC Twenty 11 also provided Sam Philip his 29th goal of the season, taking him one ahead of Cashmere Technical’s Garbhan Coughlan in the Golden Boot race.

Philip scored eight of United’s goals against Green Island.
