Ferns hold their FIFA world ranking after performances at Women’s World Cup

The Football Ferns have held their ranking as the 26th-best international team after their efforts at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The latest FIFA rankings confirmed the status quo for New Zealand as other teams were re-rated. They take into account results at the World Cup and games played in the lead-up to the tournament.

The United States, who had held top spot since June 2017, fell out of the top two for the first time ever, while Sweden and Spain moved into the leading spots.

Australia dropped out of the top 10, to 11th place, despite reaching the last four at the World Cup.

The Ferns have endured a gradual decline in the rankings from 16th in the world a decade ago.
