Spectators at Auckland United’s women’s National League fixtures will be greeted with a special welcome to Keith Hay Park, thanks to Football Fern Hannah Wilkinson.
Wilkinson, an accomplished artist, has painted a public mural at the entrance to the ground used by the Ferns during their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.

The mural celebrates New Zealand’s landmark victory against former world champions Norway in the opening game at the tournament, with the winner scored by Wilkinson.
Wilkinson says says she designed the 6×4 metre mural at the Mount Roskill ground as a thank you to the people of Aotearoa for their overwhelming support throughout the campaign.
“On the 20th of July 2023, we broke a barrier. The nation, and the world, witnessed an exceptional display of the beautiful game at Eden Park. Our potential was finally seen, we earned respect, and young girls and boys were inspired. We crashed through the wall and into the Kiwi sporting scene.
“The support we’ve received from Aotearoa throughout the tournament has been incredible. It’s such a rewarding experience to give something back to the community and thank Kiwis for their ongoing support.”
Wilkinson’s mural was supported by FIFA global partner Xero.

“Across Aotearoa, we banded together to support the team as they made history. The mural is a beautiful depiction of triumph and a true breakthrough moment for football.

Wilkinson has used her art to celebrate other football feats, including a tribute to her Melbourne City clubmate Jamie Maclaren.
