A fund established to help remove some of the financial barriers to football has entered its third year of supporting members of the football community in the Central Football region.
An initiative of Central Football, the Breaking Down Barriers Fund rallies support from the local football community and raises funds through football and futsal festivals, using the money to help remove barriers that can hinder some from taking part in the sport.
The fund was launched in March 2021 and many clubs and individuals have been supported since, helping get new players started.

Central Football has made the following video which looks at the example of Eskview United, a club based in Napier.
Many of Eskview’s members come from heavily affected areas of Cyclone Gabrielle, and the Breaking Down Barriers Fund allowed these families to continue playing the sport they love.
